GENERAL POSTULATION: The Laotian Martyrs - The Roman phase

On September 20, 2010, the apostolic phase of the Cause of Canonization of the assumed Martyrs of Laos, 15 in all, opened in Rome

At the head of the list is the Laotian priest, Joseph Tien (1918-1954), martyred in Muang Xoi, and 14 other candidates: 5 Missionary Oblates, 5 Missionaries of Foreign Missions of Paris and 4 lay Laotians, almost all of them catechists.

Also present at the official opening was Fr. Joaqín MARTÍNEZ VEGA in his role as Postulator of this Cause in the Roman phase. Accompanying him were three other Oblates: Fr. Angelo PELIS, Fr. Fabio CIARDI and a young theology student, Ndodana TSHUMA who served as photographer. There was also present another Postulator, Sister Carmen Trejo, of the Sisters of the Holy Angel. The simple and touching act was presided by Sir Alessandro Federici, in place of the Chancellor who was absent for health reasons.

The diocesan process, held in Nantes (France) and promoted and guided all the way to Rome by Fr. Roland JACQUES, the Vice-postulator, was considered canonically in order. There was then a Decree of Validity for all the steps taken so far.

This opening is another step, a very important one, in the advancement of the Cause.
